IEEE802.15.4協(xié)議是工業(yè)標準的無線網絡技術，在免授權波段以及低功耗情況下可以進行通信。該協(xié)議把低功耗、低速率傳輸、低成本作為重點目標，旨在為個人或者家庭范圍內不同設備之間的低速互連提供統(tǒng)一標準。 - 例如，一個家庭的溫度監(jiān)測和控制網絡。該低功耗器件可能是電池供電或通過“能量收集”的自供電（例如使用太陽能電池板）并且可以“休眠”，以降低功耗。
